THIS IS SOME SERIOUSLY GOOD BLEEP RIGHT HERE. IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO DOWNLOAD ONE THING GET FIVE STEP PLAN.

Recently I’ve been getting into chiptunes the easy way. This involved getting a demo version of LSDJ and a Gameboy emulator and creating chiptunes. There are a couple of releases and blogs that have really helped me get an ear for the style and developed my enthusiasm for chiptune.

little-scale (intentional lower case) is an Australian chiptune composer who does hardcore stuff with electronics.. I guess he is on the cutting edge of obsolete hardware. On top of being a whizzkid with a soldering iron he also creates some really great music.

You Can’t Change The World is a ~15 minute bunch of music created on the ATARI with the POKEY chip. The day I got it I listened to it three times back to back. This is a great piece of music. You can get it from milkcrate.com.au.

Five Step Plan is an older release from little-scale that is also a great bunch of chiptune. Most of the tracks on this are great. My favourite is probably the opener, “Dallas, Four AM.” I guess the most accessible track on this very accessible release is “Boundaries.” It is probably the most “pop” track. Also download at milkcrate.com.au.

Boundaries – little-scale

Today he released another EP thing which he says will be good for fans of Five Step Plan. It’s called Third Laser. When I get somewhere with a big bandwidth limit I’ll be all over that but for now all I can do is dream. Get it from milkcrate.com.au as well.

Go on, whine about it.
