IN WHICH I TELL YOU GUYS ABOUT A SERVICE THAT IS PROBABLY OF SOME KIND OF USE TO YOU. GET BLOGGING.
Ok, heaps of you kids have blogs because you read blogs and think, “This isn’t hard at all – all this guy does is take screen shots and say nasty things about them.” But once you have a blog you realise that if no one reads it, writing something new everyday is basically just masturbating. One of the things it is good to do when you get a blog or a domain is do some Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) so it is on the top of Google etc when you search it.
I don’t really know much about this other than sleep500 is the top of Google when you search “sleep500″ so that is basically ok. You can put some meta details in for search engines and add some code so Google Webmaster Tools can get some stats for you and add some other code so Google Analytics can get more stats for you as well.
An important part of SEO is getting your domain linked on a big, trusted domain with a good page rank so search engines recognise your blog as not a piece of shit, basically (I’m pretty sure that is how it works). Commenting on people’s blogs isn’t going to get you much more than referrals as most blogs implement the “nofollow” standard to any link that happens in the comments so comment spam is not indexed by search engines. This was meant to dissuade spammers from doing their thing but, if you run your own domain, you’ll know that it hasn’t done shit (there is a “dofollow” blog movement out there that I may cover at some stage, probably when I start implementing that when we get new hosting).
I found Loaded Web in my spam folder a while ago when they didn’t have an NZ service. Loaded Web is a blog/business directory that focussed on geographic regions, which I guess is kind of smart. If you sign up and link to them, not only do they link your blog and every single post, they do it all with “dofollow” links – links that are indexed by search engines. What I’m pretty sure this means is that Google recognises that a big, legit domain is linking you and you probably get some nice page rank points that will keep you on top of searches that include your keywords.
SO – if you think you’d like to be linked on a big domain, check out the link in the sidebar over there —> and sign up.
P.S. I didn’t have to write a blog for Loaded Web. I did it because I thought you bloggers would like to know. All of the links to them in this blog are “nofollow” links because I think I read somewhere that you should only really have one link to other domains on your page, or something.
Go on, whine about it.
